Q: What specific duties does your job position entail?
I install, startup and handle commissioning for Waldner equipment, and I do technical and operational training for operators and maintenance technicians. I conduct regular maintenance for and rebuild clients’ machines as well. More specifically, I replace worn out and damaged parts on varied machine stations and handle adjustments, alignments and the fine tuning of each station and the machine in its entirety.
I conduct machine performance analyses (MPA), which is key for customers. It’s essentially an audit of a machine, and based on that audit, we generate a comprehensive report and follow through with machine maintenance or rebuilding. Finally, I create detailed preventative maintenance (PM) documents, which include directions for regular machine maintenance for customers to refer to.
Q: Where did you work before your current position?
I was a field service and project engineer for PTI (Packaging Technologies & Inspection) and worked with Waldner’s product line there. The two companies used to be partnered.
Q: What made you want to work at WNA?
The technology of Waldner’s machines! It's so flexible, we’re able to easily customize the equipment to suit our customers’ needs. The technology is super!
Q: What is the most exciting part of your job?
I enjoy being able to fix machines for customers. It’s a successful day if I’m able to get a machine to run consistently to produce high Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) because every customer wants to minimize their machine’s downtime.
Q: What piece of advice would you give to someone looking to work in your industry?
You must be meticulous. Pay attention to details, and do not cut corners because it will come back to bite you! Remain very professional when working with both customers and colleagues and ensure there is a constant window of communication.
Q: Do you have any hobbies or guilty pleasures outside of work?
I love watching basketball and playing soccer. Most of all, I love spending time with my family. I have a tradition where I wrestle with my son every night before bed, and it lets us have fun together and unwind after the day.
Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be an aeronautical engineer.
Q: What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?
A flashlight, water and food.
Q: What do you hope to achieve in the future with your career?
I am consistently trying to instill proper maintenance culture for all our customers, and ensure our machines are producing high OEE and minimal downtime. I would also like to transition into a project manager role eventually.
