Continued momentum in the face of uncertainty

The food manufacturing industry is charging ahead in 2025, embracing innovation despite market uncertainties. WNA CEO Julian Stauffer reflects on how companies are navigating growth, adopting sustainable practices and leveraging automation to tackle today’s biggest challenges.

The food manufacturing and packaging industry has kicked off 2025 with strong momentum while also facing headwinds. As the market continues to navigate uncertainty, more companies have intensified their efforts to operate more efficiently and sustainably. Groundbreaking ideas are coming to life, transforming how companies are participating and investing in the future. The continued adoption of advanced technologies is streamlining production, reducing costs and minimizing environmental impact across the food manufacturing industry.

Julian Stauffer, CEO of WNA

At Waldner North America, we have a front-row seat to these changes, collaborating with forward-thinking companies that are shaping the future. At Pack Expo Atlanta, we continued to showcase one of these game-changing innovations: North America’s first aluminum K-cups, recently launched by coffee company Cambio Roasters. Developed in partnership with our teams in Germany and the U.S., these K-cups offer a sustainable alternative to the millions of plastic coffee pods that end up in landfills or in the ocean each day.

They also improve product quality, as aluminum helps preserve the coffee’s aroma, flavor and freshness much longer than plastic. This initiative is inspiring other businesses to follow suit, paving the way for more environmentally friendly solutions.

As sustainability and innovation take center stage, many companies are focused on scaling production and expanding into new markets. Striking a balance between growth and sustainable manufacturing remains a key challenge, with rising production costs, labor shortages and regulatory changes adding complexity. To address some of these challenges, many manufacturers are embracing automation, minimizing waste, reducing downtime and increasing profitability—all crucial for helping them withstand the higher costs of sustainable packaging.

As manufacturers continue to evolve and reshape the food and beverage industry, we remain committed to supporting them at every step of their journey.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and look forward to taking those steps together.
